Tipnis belongs to that band of designers who has steadily climbed the ladder
of success with hard work and a disciplined business sense. Lina began her career
by designing in 1987 for her retail outlet at the Oberoi, Mumbai. She is quite
honest about her background when she says," I am fortunate to have an inborn
desire to create garments" After having retailed for 5 years, the next
logical step was manufacturing. In 1992, her label sold Indian semi formal and
fusion co-ordinates to select stores in India and abroad. In 1996, she launched
her label LlNARIKA which is now sold in over 30 stores in India as well as the
U.K., Southeast Africa and the Middle East. While the Indian semi-formals are
marketed through' these outlets, the fusion lines with a very international flavour
are aimed at the European markets. Today, the label has a loyal customer base
amongst its target audience profile. In 1997, Lina was invited to showcase
her collection at the world's largest and most prestigious garment fair- CPD (Collection
Premiered in Dusseldorf) hosted by the IGEDO Company where she launched her signature
label 'LINA TIPNIS'. Her collection received an overwhelming response. Ever
since, she has been successfully exporting fusion lines to stores in Europe. These
fusion lines which are available across Europe are simultaneously sold in India
through stores like Melange in Mumbai, Ffolio in Bangalore, Ensemble, Amazor and
Kaaya in Delhi, Elahe and Stanza in Hyderabad and Kali, Zenon & Espee in Kolkatta. Her
much in demand ethnic prêt lines are sold through various chain stores in
Mumbai, Kolkatta, Hyderabad, Bangalore, New Delhi, Chennai and Pune. With
the philosophy of 'less is more', her garments are essentially minimalistic ensembles
that are aimed at the urban woman. Emphasis has always been on engineering and
wearability. Working on natural fibers -has been Lina's fortê. The
reason for her success? It's her capability of having her finger on the pulse
of consumer's needs and the ability to set new trends within the highly volatile
fashion industry. Lina Tipnis has been exploring fusion couture
for some seasons now, and has arrived at a look, which combines classic elegance
with a soft sensuality. She has also used fashion for a cause. Post the
Kargil war, she initiated and spearheaded an event with Melange wherein she roped
in other designers to sell garments and sent the entire proceeds to the Kargil
Army Welfare fund. Lina has also been a consultant to the Raymond group
for setting up of their designer pret stores-'Be'; which involved identifying
designers and merchandise for the store. The pioneering work undertaken
by her over the last decade also won her the prestigious Indira Gandhi Young Achievers
Award for 2002. She is always keen to work in collaboration with other designers
to nurture the fashion business and give it industry status. "The market
is very large and there's room for everyone. Designers must first work towards
increasing fashion consciousness collectively and then create brand loyalties". Lina
has carved a niche in the fashion business by moving into both genres of Styling.
That is her formula for success besides her marketing and promotional skills. Linarika,310,

graduated from Srishti School of Art, Design and Technology as a fashion designer
in December 2006, Rekha set up her design firm Rekha Jacob Designs in mid
2008 under which her womenswear label Rekha Jacob operates. The label
Rekha Jacob is an extension of her college diploma project
which focuses on working out clothing for women that would best suit their body
types, so as to generate body confidence and improve self image. Her keen interest
in patternmaking and her curiosity to understand the way fabrics can work around
the body have led her to constantly experiment with innovative cuts and drapes
in her garments. Her style is minimalistic and clean with emphasis on well fitting,
neatly constructed garments. COLLECTION The collection, this
season, - The Circle Series and as the name suggests draws
its inspiration from circles. Using the concept of circles to clothe
the body, every garment in this collection is made from only circular pieces of
fabric (one or more) that have been draped, stitched together, folded, slit through
or twisted to form original silhouettes that could provide solutions to the various
body-types.
The collection showcases party, cocktail and evening wear PRESS

S As a college student I studied commerce, however I always had an
inclination towards a more creative and artistic field. I then went for formal
training to the J.D. Institute of Fashion Designing, after which I got a job as
a designer at reputed departmental store, ROOPAM. I worked here for a period of
2.5 years. I gained very strong technical foundation here. With the required exposure
and contacts I was then introduced to the film industry. Akshay Kumar was
the first artist I designed costumes for. He was my launch pad to BOLLYWOOD. I
set up my own small scale-manufacturing unit. Soon I started getting several inquiries
to design costumes for actresses. Keeping all interest in mind, I took up a few
artist & interacted with the likes of Raveena Tandon, Shilpa Shetty, Rekha,
Manisha Koirala, Sridevi etc. Now designing for Hrithik, Amisha & Aftab.
These artist are often looked upon as role models & people have the desire
to look & dress like them. Media being a very effective form of communication,
particularly films, definitely has a strong influence in the world of fashion.
Having a foothold & learning the in's & out's of the line I then ventured
into the commercial aspect of the trade. I opened a store retailing exclusive
ladies & men designer wear, located at Juhu named ROCKY-S. This Brand
label selling prêt lines has given me an excellent response in the market.
The drive to gain international fame & success took me to Dusseldorf-
Germany where I participated in the IGEDO fair in 1996 September. This was definitely
a matter of repute as the board invites the participants. Now I have plans of
venturing into international market that can cater to every man & woman's
dream. Currently I have tied up with the fashion store, Benzer, as fashion director
and consultant. Very shortly, we will be opening up a fashion lifestyle store
called, 'Boulevard Benzer', which will stock prêt and couture garments ranging
from bridals and ethno chic to westerns. Come September, 2003, the store will
grace the cosmopolitan suburbs of Mumbai to cater to the 'fashion savvy'. In the
near future, we plan to reach out to the other cities as well. Samant

which were juxtaposed with silver and zinc. This collection was made using Svarovski
crystals as a part of a tie up and other junk jewellery elements. Wills
India Fashion Week: Autumn Wedding @ SS09 This collection is a marriage of
Indian craftsmanship with western silhouettes. The jewel tone dresses blended

of his AW09 line dedicated to the "The silk worm" at the London fashion
week for the third time at the Estethica part of the event and also at the opening
show of the Wills India Fashion Week. The AW09 collection dedicated to "the
silk worm", shimmers a pale biscuit gold pool of sunlight and sanctuary in
a crowded and noisy fashion spectacular. The pieces are statements in shape or
contour, although most take their key design elements from the classic Indian
silhouettes but the simplicity and monotone of the women's wear garments have
been set off with elegant appliqué and embellishment in pastel colored
silk flowers and subtle embroidery. This has been made out of 100% hand
woven silk from Bhagalpur Village in Bihar, India. The catalogue can be viewed

VAKIL LABEL SYNOPSISThe label ZUBIN VAKIL is as volatile as it is
vivacious. Encompassing conventions and politically correct fashion statements,
it can clearly be defined as anti-establishment. Never deviating from its feminine
incantations, it is sophisticated in a quirky kind of way. With whimsical attitudes
and cataclysmic moods, the look is free spirited coquette meets the devilishly
saucy diva. Versatility being the forte, the ZUBIN VAKIL woman is always
game to explore the very many roles she can play. Gregarious and bohemian, she
is a renegade who defies norms with insouciant style. Emphasizing the spirit
of the label with its signature sassiness and hippy deluxe flavours, dresses,
flounced and furbelow flamenco skirts, tiny jacket frocklets with self fabricated
detailing, wraps, cowls, pleats and textures comprise the conceptions. ZUBIN
VAKIL'S fashion philosophy is that fashion is fashion only if it has the power
to stop traffic. Clothes do not just make a statement, but a conversation and
a speculation. Every fold and crinkle should be insinuating, the colour
.
A revelation. Chocolathe, to mimosa and russet, ultramarine to incarnate, splash
the interpreting hues of the label. Snaking its way into the beau monde,
it intends to unleash its venomous charms, to its very sublime cognoscenti. Lokesh
