Ashok Maanay
Right from the beginning when I started understanding colours, I began to love it. As an artist I enjoyed every bit of colours I used in my paintings and as time passed by I started seeing them in fabrics and understood the matching and mixing of colours in fabrics. With it I started designing, realized the richness of fabrics and played with it along, with all types of embroideries (handwork) with embellishments, and was also tremendously inspired by the choice of my parents and grandparents wardrobe, especially during the royal weddings which very often I attended. Then I did a course in fashion designing at J D Institute Bangalore, where I learnt the nuances of designing and was able to prove my abilities. My work was applauded in the ramp show, be it, for J D or Shreedhar or Rahul Dev Shetty in Bangalore, Hyderabad, Cochin and then in Delhi. Through J D's Delhi branch I participated in 'New Delhi International Fashion Week' and won the best designer award, much to the amazement of my co-designers from all over the world. My heartfelt thanks to Sri Chandrakant Dalal chairman J D, my mentor Mr. Neelesh Dalal J D's Bangalore and Mr. Rajesh Dalal of J D's Delhi for their unstinted support and encouragement which instilled confidence in me propelling me to march ahead to see this day!
